merz in the oberland

well it's been a while since we sent any news from our camp. so it's time.
i've been holed up in a couple of writing room/studios in bern, switzerland the last few months, one of which is a fantastic old school-turned-space for a diverse spectrum of 150 artists. it's called 'progr' and recently went head to head with a capital investment firm who wanted to buy the building (which is right in the heart of the city) the artist's organization managed to raise the finances to compete with their offer and the choice went to a public vote (many decisions are given over to a public vote here). the artists came out victorious with 66% of the vote. so the place remains a hive of creativity, forward thinking and a pipeline for new ideas, future culture rather than one more moneyed luxury spa.
the other place i'm writing in is a former nuclear bomb shelter complete with air purifier machine. i'm sub-letting this off a swiss band called lunik who are pretty big here. good people.
i'd say i was halfway through writing the record. if my last 'moi et mon camion' was a humanist record then this one could be described as philosophical, mystical even, but that's probably going too far, haha.
well i'm certainly inspired by my proximity to the alps and a particular valley that lord byron hung out in and eulogised. also it's much more rhythmic than the last two records.

here's some news: all my catalogue of records is about to be released online in the USA, from 30th June U.S.-ers will be able to buy all the merz records from iTunes, INgrooves etc.

gronland records (uk, europe) are producing a vinyl version of 'moi et mon camion'complete with new artwork and alluring packaging. i can't tell you when this will be available yet but feel free to write to us and reserve your copy (it will be a limited run).

there's two new merz sessions available to stream on-line; one is the radio france inter white session which was recorded last year for bernard lenoir who, it could be said, is france's john peel (rip). the six song session is available here

the other is a live gig recorded at last years offset festival in uk
which is available here

the daytrotter session is still available to download free of charge
